For many mums and dads, ferrying their family from one social engagement to another may be part of the job description, but for some parents, it’s much more than that.
So here at Hutchings, we are revealing research from Vauxhall, which found the average parent spends 286 hours a year ferrying their kids around, totalling up to almost 12 full days. And findings suggest that if these journeys were on a meter, parents would earn a staggering £9.8k a year!
However, we are championing the small moments that make life brilliant, as findings show that the majority of parents use this time to bond with their children.
In fact, 49% of parents use the journeys to have a laugh with their kids and a third (31%) admit the moments spent in a car together gives them the quality time they wouldn’t get anywhere else. What's more, many mums and dads think this is the perfect way to find out more about their kids - whilst playground gossip is the main topic to talk about, a fifth of parents (22%) use driving their children about as an opportunity to eavesdrop on them.
The survey also revealed that local parents could take a road trip to Lisbon, for the equivalent of 1,283 miles they could clock up driving kids from A to B. Also, parents spend an average of two working days a year simply waiting in the car for their children.
So, with parents spending so much time in the car, the Grandland X, now available at Hutchings, makes the ideal ‘Cab of Mum and Dad’. As the largest SUV in the range, there is ample space for parents to enjoy spending this extra quality time with their kids, with its seating for five people and generous luggage space.
As the newest addition to the “X range”, the Grandland X’s sporty, rugged exterior profile and luxurious interior makes it a cut above the rest when it comes to SUVs. Built to inspire confidence in the everyday, with an elevated driving position so drivers literally sit higher, the Grandland X goes above and beyond to achieve a bold and commanding driving experience.
With generous storage, state-of-the-art safety features and driver-convenience technology including the IntelliGrip traction control system, LED adaptive forward lighting, 360° panoramic camera and Advanced Park Assist, the Grandland X is grand in every sense of the word.
Plus, with WiFi available for up to seven devices, the Grandland X enables passengers on board to plug in and listen to their own choice of songs. Which is great news for parents, as the research also revealed that both parents and children get fuelled up over the music choices with a quarter (25%) claiming the selection of tunes is the top in-car discussion.
So there you have it; all you mum and dads out there who ferry your kids around may have missed out on an incredible £10k per year, but it's clear that those one-to-one moments in the car with your little ones are none other than priceless.
